BFF’s Chief Financial Officer Resigns

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has been struggling with its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position for several years. Md. Sarfaraz Hasan Siddiqui, the current CFO of BFF, has resigned, and the federation has accepted his resignation. It will take effect from April 10. Although his resignation has been accepted, Sarfaraz will remain with BFF for another three months to assist with the handover process.

Within BFF’s administrative structure, the General Secretary is the top executive, followed by the CFO. Apart from the foreign coaching staff, these two positions cost BFF around eight lakh taka per month.

On April 14, 2023, FIFA banned former General Secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag. Following that, BFF formed an investigation committee to look into its financial matters. During the committee’s work, then-CFO Abu Hossain resigned in June-July. A few months later, Sarfaraz Hasan was appointed CFO by BFF President Kazi Salahuddin.

BFF’s monthly expenses are estimated at 4–5 crore taka, with annual expenditures of around 50–60 crore. To manage these financial records, BFF spends approximately four lakh taka per month on the CFO position alone.

In contrast, another top sports organization in the country, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), handles annual transactions of around 200 crore and has fixed deposits worth thousands of crores—yet it does not have a Chief Financial Officer. However, its constitution does clearly mandate the appointment of a CFO.
