For the first time last season, Fortune Barishal won the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title. The franchise had planned a celebratory visit to Barishal back then, but it didn’t happen. This time, however, the BPL champions didn’t miss the opportunity. With two trophies in hand, Tamim Iqbal’s team has already arrived in Barishal.
On Sunday, February 9, all the players of the team, along with coaching staff and local cricketers, flew to Barishal on a chartered flight.
Reports confirm that a trophy celebration is set to take place at Bells Park in Barishal, where a concert will also be held. The popular Bangladeshi band Ark is set to perform.
After securing their second consecutive BPL title, Tamim Iqbal had announced their plans to visit Barishal. He had previously said:
“Last time, we couldn’t visit Barishal after winning the BPL. But this time, we have planned to come on February 9. Hopefully, everyone in Barishal will be there to welcome us. If everything goes well, you will see us with the trophy on the 9th.”
In the 11th edition of the BPL, Barishal defended their title by defeating Chattogram Kings by 3 wickets in the final. With this, they became only the third team—after Dhaka Gladiators and Comilla Victorians—to win back-to-back BPL titles.
