The recent conflict between India and Pakistan has once again triggered heightened tensions across South Asia. On Tuesday night (May 6), a missile strike by India reportedly hit nine locations in Pakistan. In retaliation, Pakistan claimed to have launched counter-attacks, stating that five Indian fighter jets were shot down.
This state of war has also impacted the world of sports. While the Indian Premier League (IPL) continues in India, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is ongoing in Pakistan. Both tournaments feature numerous international stars. Among them, two Bangladeshi cricketers — Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain — are currently participating in the PSL. Nahid is playing for Peshawar Zalmi, while Rishad is with Lahore Qalandars.
Although several matches still remain in the PSL, the ongoing conflict has raised concerns over player safety. As a result, discussions have begun about possibly bringing the two cricketers back to Bangladesh.
When asked about the matter, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim said that no direct communication has been made with Rishad or Nahid yet. However, if the situation deteriorates, steps will be taken immediately to ensure their safe return.
According to the current PSL schedule, Nahid’s team has two matches left in the league stage, while Rishad’s team has one. If their teams qualify for the playoffs and final, both players may have to stay in Pakistan until May 18. Nevertheless, if the overall security situation worsens, they may return to Bangladesh before completing the tournament. The board has stated that the safety of the two cricketers will be given the highest priority.
