The 2028 Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, USA. Cricket will be played there in T20 format, and this will be the first time since 1900 that cricket is included in the Olympics.
The men’s cricket event will have six teams. According to reports, five teams are almost confirmed to take part. The tournament will start on 12 July, and the medal matches will be held on 20 and 29 July.
According to British newspaper The Guardian, one team from each continent will participate. So far, these teams have received the green signal:
United States (host country)
India (from Asia)
Australia (from Oceania)
Great Britain (from Europe)
South Africa (from Africa)
Great Britain will send a combined team under the “GB” format. England and Wales Cricket Board is already on board, and they are discussing adding Scotland to the team.
However, Pakistan and New Zealand, two strong teams from Asia and Oceania, are not happy with this selection. There are also rumors that West Indies, two-time T20 World Cup champions, might take part representing the Caribbean region.
Surprisingly, big cricket nations like Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh are not included, and there will be no qualifying rounds.
Still, the ICC (International Cricket Council) has not officially confirmed which countries will play in the 2028 Olympics.
