The Pakistan Super League (PSL) kicks off on Friday (April 11) with a match between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars. However, on the tournament’s opening day, cricketers faced a horrific accident.
A fire broke out at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad on Friday afternoon, where players from various teams, including foreign cricketers, were staying, according to Sama TV.
Jafar Iqbal, Director of Emergency at the Capital Development Authority, told the media, “Six fire trucks and around 50 firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. It was brought under control within half an hour.”
A spokesperson for the district administration reported that the fire started on the top floor of the seven-story five-star hotel.
No casualties have been reported from the incident. However, all guests, including PSL players and staff, were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Security has been tightened across the entire area.
The district administration confirmed that the fire was caused not by any group attack, but due to a structural fault.
