Dhaka Capitals clinched a resounding 149-run victory over Rajshahi Royals in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), posting a mammoth total of 254 runs. Liton Das, who blasted a 44-ball century and finished on 125 off 55, was the star of the show. This was Liton’s maiden T20 hundred. Meanwhile, opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim contributed with a 64-ball 108, his second T20 ton.
Dhaka’s 254 is the highest team total in BPL history, surpassing the previous record of 239/4 set by Rangpur Riders in 2019.
Liton Das and Tanzid Hasan Tamim combined for a record-breaking opening partnership of 241 runs. This is the highest opening partnership in franchise T20 cricket and the second-highest in international cricket. Japan’s Yamamuro and Fleming had earlier put on a 258* run stand against China in an international match in 2024.
Dhaka’s victory snapped a six-match losing streak. With just one win in seven matches, their playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. However, if they can win their next five matches, they will be in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs.
Liton Das was controversially omitted from the Bangladesh squad for the Champions Trophy. Despite scoring 75 runs the day before the squad announcement and a blistering 125 on the day of the announcement, he was left out. His inclusion in the squad might still be possible if he continues his form, but at the expense of another player.
