Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of India’s most successful captains, recently voiced his concern over the declining physical activity and fitness levels in today’s generation.
Dhoni, who debuted for India in 2004, has played 90 Test matches and 98 T20 internationals. Under his captaincy, India clinched the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy—making him the only captain to win all three major ICC trophies. Beyond the trophies, Dhoni played a crucial role in many of India’s victories.
He retired from international cricket in July 2019, and at 44 years old, he still actively participates in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite undergoing knee surgery, Dhoni has continued to perform consistently in franchise cricket.
Recently, at an event in Ranchi, Dhoni shared his concern about the younger generation’s lack of physical activity. “These days, physical exertion has significantly decreased, and as a result, our fitness is deteriorating. Many people are not engaged in any kind of sport,” he said.
He also added, “Even my daughter doesn’t engage in physical activities. She doesn’t play any sport. So we have to think of ways to keep her active. Without running around, the body won’t stay fit. That’s something everyone needs to understand.”
In his career, Dhoni scored 4,876 runs in 90 Test matches, with 6 centuries and 33 half-centuries.
In ODIs, he played 350 matches, scoring 10,773 runs, including 10 centuries and 73 fifties.
In T20 internationals, he amassed 1,617 runs from 98 matches, including two fifties.
In the IPL, across 278 matches, he has scored 5,439 runs with 24 fifties.
