Not one or two, but as many as five countries are in contention. The big question is: which national team will Ronaldo Jr. choose to play for? According to a report by the Spanish daily Marca, if everything goes well and Cristiano Ronaldo’s son wishes, he could represent any of these five countries in international football. If that happens, a fierce competition for him is likely!
The five countries in question are the United States, England, Spain, Cape Verde, and Portugal. Behind all these possibilities stands Cristiano Ronaldo himself. Ronaldo Jr. is already eligible to play for four of these countries, while he would need to go through a legal process to gain eligibility for one.
Currently, Ronaldo Jr. is 14 years old and plays for his father’s club, Al Nassr’s youth team. Despite his young age, he has already gained experience playing for top clubs like Juventus and Manchester United, leaving his mark on the pitch. Now, the teenage star is making headlines.
Since his legendary father, Ronaldo, played for Portugal, it is natural that his son would have the opportunity to represent Portugal as well. However, if he chooses not to play for his father’s country, he has the option of playing for Cape Verde, the homeland of his grandmother (Nani’s country). If that doesn’t interest him, Ronaldo Jr. could try to play for the United States, as he was born in San Diego, California, making him eligible for U.S. citizenship.
If none of these options appeal to him, he could also choose to represent England or Spain. When he was born, Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid, and Ronaldo Jr. spent eight years in Spain with his father. According to Spanish law, if a child under 10 years old has lived in Spain for at least three years, they can apply for citizenship. There is also a possibility of playing for England, though that path is a bit more complicated.
However, before any of this happens, the young star must first prove his footballing talent. If he can showcase his skills and establish himself, then Ronaldo Jr. will have the luxury of choosing his international future.
