The battle for securing a playoff spot in the BPL has intensified. Two teams have already confirmed their places in the next round, while one team has been eliminated from the tournament. On paper, four teams are still in the race, though Dhaka Capitals’ chances of making it to the playoffs are highly improbable.
Rangpur Riders and Fortune Barishal have secured their playoff berths with equal points (16) and the same number of wins and matches played. However, Rangpur is at the top of the table due to a better net run rate. On the other hand, Sylhet Strikers, with just two wins in 11 matches, have been the first team to be eliminated. Dhaka is at risk of being the next team to exit, having won only three of their 10 matches. Even if they win their remaining two games, their fate will depend on the performances of other teams.
At this point, three teams—Durbar Rajshahi, Chattogram Kings, and Khulna Tigers—are actively competing for a playoff spot. Rajshahi has completed all their first-round matches, securing 12 points from 12 games, placing them third on the table. While they have a strong chance of making it to the playoffs, their fate depends on how the other teams perform.
The real contest is now between Chattogram Kings and Khulna Tigers. Chattogram, currently in fourth place with 10 points from nine matches, holds a slight psychological advantage over Khulna, which has eight points from 10 matches. If Chattogram wins just one more match, they could surpass Rajshahi and claim the third spot. Their strong net run rate also works in their favor. Winning two of their remaining three matches would guarantee them a playoff spot without any dependency on other results. Chattogram’s remaining fixtures are against Rangpur, Sylhet, and Barishal, with Rangpur and Barishal being the toughest challenges.
Khulna, with only eight points, must win both of their remaining matches against Rangpur and Dhaka to stay in the hunt. Losing even one match could mean elimination. Beating the table-toppers Rangpur will be a big challenge for Khulna, making their path to the playoffs extremely difficult.
