Habibur Rahman Sohan leads Bangladesh to victory with the fastest century

Habibur Rahman Sohan has etched his name in history. The fastest T20 century in Bangladesh’s cricket history now belongs to him.
Sohan, who began his career playing tape-tennis cricket, has been playing with the hard ball for about five years. Known for his explosive batting, this right-handed opener finally proved himself on the big stage. With a record-breaking, blistering century, he shattered two major records.

Today, in the Asia Cup match against Hong Kong China, Sohan made this record. He completed his century in just 35 balls. That was enough to write his name into the record books.

In the Group ‘A’ match held in Doha, Qatar, Hong Kong had set Bangladesh a challenging target of 168 runs. But Bangladesh chased down the target with 54 balls to spare, thanks to Sohan’s carnage.

Sohan’s whirlwind began in the first over with three sixes. In the second over, he added three fours and another six. From there, he kept scoring big in every over of the powerplay.

By the end of the first six overs, Bangladesh had already reached 107 runs. Even the lowest-scoring over yielded 13 runs.

Yesterday, in the Emerging Stars Asia Cup, India’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a century off 32 balls. At one stage, it seemed Sohan might even surpass that. He was on 96 off 31 balls, but it took him four more deliveries to get the remaining four runs. Still, by scoring a century off 35 balls, he broke Bangladesh’s fastest century record.

This is now the fastest century by any Bangladeshi batter in any form of cricket. The previous record was held by Parvez Hossain Emon, who scored a 42-ball century in 2020.
