Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain had been signed by the Hobart Hurricanes for the Big Bash League but couldn’t participate due to issues with his NOC. However, Rishad’s team, the Hobart Hurricanes, went on to claim their maiden Big Bash title. In the final, they defeated the Sydney Thunder by 7 wickets to secure the championship.
On Monday (January 27), Hobart won the toss and opted to bowl first against Sydney. Openers David Warner and Jason Sangha gave the Thunder a strong start, adding 97 runs for the first wicket. Warner, the captain, scored 48 off 32 balls, while Sangha smashed 67 off 42 balls. The rest of the batting lineup couldn’t contribute significantly, with Chris Green adding a quick cameo of 16 runs off 9 balls towards the end. Sydney Thunder finished their innings at 182/7 in the allotted 20 overs.
Chasing 183, Hobart’s batters started aggressively. Michael Owen wreaked havoc on Sydney’s bowlers, racing to a half-century off just 16 balls. He then reached his century in just 39 deliveries by the 10th over. Although there was a slight stutter after his dismissal, Hobart Hurricanes comfortably sealed the victory, earning their first Big Bash title.
