“I Want to Strengthen Bangladesh Cricket” – Hemp

David Hemp has been serving as the batting coach for the Bangladesh national cricket team for nearly a year. On Saturday, he is returning to Bangladesh, but this time with a dual role.

Hemp will act as the assistant coach for the Bangladesh women’s team in the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Pakistan. Once this assignment is complete, he will return to his role as the head coach of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s High-Performance Unit.

Confirming the news himself, Hemp stated, “I will return on the 15th. I will work as the assistant coach for the women’s team in the World Cup qualifiers in Pakistan, and then I’ll go back to the High-Performance Unit.”

Hemp holds an ECB Level-4 coaching certification. As a batter, he had an impressive first-class career, scoring over 15,500 runs while playing for Glamorgan, Free State, and Warwickshire. Additionally, he represented Bermuda in 24 One Day Internationals.

Hemp’s coaching experience is extensive. He served as the head coach of the Pakistan women’s team from 2020 to 2022 and also coached Australia’s Victoria women’s team and the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.

Speaking to the media after his first day of coaching, Hemp said, “We are creating a platform here where players can learn and gradually progress to the next level, ultimately contributing to the national team. We are working towards that goal. We want to strengthen Bangladesh cricket and enhance its depth.”

Hemp aims to prepare players to adapt to all conditions globally. “We will prepare the cricketers in such a way that they can adapt and perform in any condition around the world,” he added.
