ICC Champions Trophy Takes a Ride on Bangladesh’s Iconic Sampan Boat

The ICC Champions Trophy, set to be held in Pakistan in February-March next year, is currently on a global tour. As part of this tour, the stunning trophy made a stop in the picturesque coastal city of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where it posed with the region’s traditional sampan boats—an integral part of the area’s heritage.

The sampan, a unique boat still prominent in the southern regions of Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar, holds cultural significance and is highly regarded by both local and international tourists. On Wednesday morning, the Champions Trophy was showcased on a sampan at the Cox’s Bazar sea beach for a special photo session. Later, it was displayed at an open stage near the Laboni Point and the “Urmi” Border Conference Center, managed by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), until 3 PM.

Festivities at the Beach

The trophy’s arrival turned Cox’s Bazar into a festive hub. Cricket fans, tourists, and locals gathered in large numbers to witness the prestigious trophy, creating a lively atmosphere. Many posed for pictures with the trophy, capturing memories to cherish.

A special stage was set up on the sandy shores for the display, with the sea’s cool breeze and soothing waves adding to the scenic beauty. Visitors were thrilled with the event, with some expressing hopes that one day Bangladesh will win the coveted trophy.

Tight Security and Smooth Management

To ensure the event’s security, a strong presence of RAB, police, tourist police, and intelligence teams was deployed. Despite the initial crowd frenzy turning the area into a celebratory space, the crowd thinned after an hour, allowing more people to view the trophy at their own pace.

The event was hailed as a success, with many noting that it added a unique dimension to Cox’s Bazar’s tourism. The blend of sports, culture, and natural beauty left an indelible mark on all who attended.
