The ICC’s annual conference began on Thursday in Singapore and will run for four days. This is the first annual meeting since Jay Shah was elected as the new ICC chairman and Sanjog Gupta as the new CEO. Several changes to the rules of cricket are expected to be discussed during this conference.
Cricket will also feature in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games in the T20 format. However, the International Olympic Committee has left it to the ICC to decide how and in what format the Olympic qualifiers will be held.
A major change could be introduced during this year’s annual meeting. According to British media outlet The Telegraph, although there has been no fixed minimum age for international cricket debuts so far, the global governing body of cricket is now considering introducing a minimum age limit. The proposal will be presented during the ongoing conference.
The ICC’s Medical Advisory Committee first raised the issue. They have suggested this measure to reduce the risk of injuries and unexpected incidents in cricket. However, franchise cricket will continue as before, with no age restrictions.
There will also be discussions on restructuring the framework of Test cricket. Both the England and Australia cricket boards have expressed support for changes in the Test format.
