In England, Indian Shubman Gill’s jersey tops the auction list.

In the recently concluded India–England series in England, jerseys and baggy caps used by players from both teams were put up for auction. A special auction was organized under the banner “Red for Ruth,” with proceeds going to a charitable organization. Among the items, the highest bid went for the jersey worn by Indian captain Shubman Gill. According to a report by Indian news outlet News18, Gill’s jersey fetched £4,600 — roughly 750,000 Bangladeshi taka. Out of around a dozen match memorabilia items, this was the most expensive. Also auctioned were signed jerseys, caps, framed photos, bats, and hospitality tickets from both teams.

Jointly in second place were the jerseys of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, each selling for £4,200 (about 685,000 taka). Next came KL Rahul’s jersey at £4,000. Among the English players, the most expensive jersey was that of veteran batter Joe Root, which sold for £3,800. Captain Ben Stokes’ jersey fetched £3,400.

Aside from jerseys, the most expensive single item in the auction was a cap signed by Joe Root, which sold for £3,000 (about 490,000 taka). Among Indian players, the priciest cap belonged to Rishabh Pant, which went for £1,500. In the history of the Ruth Strauss Foundation auctions, the highest amount ever raised for a single item was £5,000 (around 815,000 taka) — for a framed canvas by Sacha Jafri depicting England’s 2019 World Cup victory moment.

Each year, the foundation of former England captain Andrew Strauss dedicates a match as part of “Red for Ruth.” The charity was founded after Strauss’s wife, Ruth Strauss, passed away from cancer. Over the past six years, the foundation has supported more than 3,500 families and trained over 1,000 individuals who work with cancer patients and those dealing with grief.
