India won the three-match ODI series against South Africa 2–1. Despite winning the series, India has been fined 10 percent for a slow over-rate in the second ODI. Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees stated that India was found guilty under the ICC Code of Conduct for bowling two overs short of the required quota.
For not completing the overs within the allotted time, each player is fined 5 percent of their match fee. Indian captain KL Rahul accepted the charge and the sanction, so no formal hearing was required.
In the second ODI held last Wednesday at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur, India set a record total of 358 runs thanks to centuries from Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad, but still ended up losing the match.
However, South Africa failed to post a challenging total in the final match of the series. They were bowled out for 270 in 47.5 overs. Chasing 271, India sealed the series 2–1 with a dominant 9-wicket win, with 61 balls to spare.
Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played a magnificent innings of 112 off 121 balls, hitting 12 fours and two sixes. Former captain Rohit Sharma scored 75 off 73 balls with seven fours and three sixes. Another former captain, Virat Kohli, contributed a fighting 65 off 45 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes.
