India is the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won a record 8 titles out of the past 16 editions. Sri Lanka has won 6 times, and Pakistan 2 times. Based on that record, India is the favorite in the Asia Cup.
Ahead of the upcoming 17th edition of the Asia Cup, Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly said, ‘India is a very strong team. Especially in ODIs and T20s, India is stronger than in Tests. In my opinion, India is the favorite in this year’s Asia Cup. Particularly on the kind of pitches found in Dubai, beating India is very difficult.’
The 2027 ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa, still two years away. There has been a lot of speculation about whether India’s two senior players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, will play in that tournament.
On this matter, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said, ‘I don’t really know much about it, so I can’t comment. It’s very hard to say who will play and who won’t. But if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli perform well, then why wouldn’t they play? If they play well, they should definitely continue. Virat Kohli’s ODI record is excellent, and so is Rohit’s.
