IPL Suspended

In the end, IPL 2025 has officially been suspended.
The ongoing border tensions with Pakistan have affected India’s most popular cricket tournament, the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, it’s not a complete cancellation — the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that IPL 2025 has only been suspended for one week. If the situation improves, the remaining matches could resume as early as next week.

On Thursday, a match was underway in Dharamsala between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. But the match was halted midway. Initially, it was said that the game had been stopped due to a floodlight malfunction. Later, it was revealed that the real reason was a security threat. Pakistan had carried out several missile and drone attacks in different locations, putting the match at risk.

A cheerleader present at the stadium shared her experience on social media. She said, “The entire stadium was evacuated in the middle of the game. It was terrifying. People were screaming — ‘a bomb is coming.’ I’m still scared. We want to leave Dharamsala. I hope the IPL authorities will take care of us. I don’t know why I’m not crying, maybe I’m still in shock.”

Following this incident, the BCCI announced that the IPL would be suspended for a week. However, the tournament has not been cancelled entirely. So far, 57 matches have been completed. The Punjab vs. Delhi match ended with no result. There are still 16 matches remaining, including the final group stage games, qualifiers, and the final.

According to the schedule, the final was set to be held on May 25 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, if the security situation does not improve, the BCCI is considering alternative plans. There have been rumors that if the Asia Cup, scheduled for September, gets cancelled, then the remaining IPL matches might be held during that period instead.

The tournament had been heating up toward the end, which is why the BCCI is eager to resume the IPL as soon as the situation stabilizes.
