Pakistan’s exit from the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup has been confirmed after their loss to Ireland, a comparatively weaker team.
In a rain-affected match held at the Johor Cricket Academy in Malaysia on Wednesday, Ireland won the toss and chose to bat first. They managed to score 69 runs in their allotted 9 overs.
Chasing a target of 73 runs from 54 balls, Pakistan could only manage 59 runs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Ireland won the match by 13 runs in the rain-impacted game, sending Pakistan out of the tournament.
On the first day of the tournament, on January 18, Pakistan’s match against the USA was abandoned due to rain. In their second match on January 20, they were bowled out for just 66 runs in a batting collapse against England, losing by 6 wickets. After today’s rain-affected defeat to Ireland, Pakistan’s exit from the tournament was confirmed.
With this victory, Ireland secured their place in the Super Six round.
In Group B, England leads with 5 points from 3 matches. The USA is second with 3 points from 3 matches, followed by Ireland in third with 3 points from 3 matches. Pakistan, with just 1 point from 3 matches, sits at the bottom of the group.
Only the top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six round, so Pakistan’s elimination is now final.
