Bangladesh cricket is making more headlines for off-field drama than on-field performance. The cricket board is evidently going through a crisis. Within just 10 months of appointment, Faruque Ahmed has been removed from the position of BCB President. Meanwhile, Faruque has declared that he will continue to fight his case.
At this critical juncture, former cricketer Tamim Iqbal has dropped a bombshell. The former national team captain stated that “everything except cricket is happening” in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Tamim is currently in Lahore, Pakistan, for personal reasons, where the Bangladesh-Pakistan T20 series is underway. After losing the first match, Bangladesh is set to play the second today (Friday) in a bid to save the series.
During his time in Lahore, Tamim spoke to Bangladeshi journalists. He said,
“This is the Bangladesh Cricket Board — a cricket board — but everything is happening here except cricket. Who’s coming, who’s going, who’ll be president or who won’t, who’ll conduct the elections — these are minor issues. People are beginning to lose interest in Bangladesh cricket.”
Mentioning that cricket is losing its shine, Tamim further added,
“In my opinion, who becomes president doesn’t really matter to me. But whoever is there now or comes in the future, please think seriously about cricket. Because cricket is losing its appeal.”
