Kohli and RCB’s Championship Celebration Turns Tragic

For the first time ever, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have clinched the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. To celebrate the victory, lakhs of fans gathered at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, what was meant to be a joyous occasion turned into a heartbreaking tragedy.

According to NDTV, at least 11 people lost their lives in a stampede outside the stadium, while more than 50 others were injured. Authorities fear that the number of casualties may rise.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night (June 3) after RCB defeated Punjab Kings by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, securing their maiden IPL title under the leadership of Virat Kohli.

On Wednesday, the RCB squad was scheduled to meet Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and then celebrate with fans at their home ground, the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

As per the plan, thousands of fans began gathering at the stadium from the morning. In the evening, RCB captain Rajat Patidar lifted the trophy in front of the cheering crowd inside the stadium, where the team was also formally welcomed by the Karnataka government.

However, outside the stadium, an enormous number of fans—eager to witness the celebration—tried to enter the already packed venue. This led to chaos and a stampede, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. The local security forces failed to control the overwhelming crowd, and the lack of proper crowd management worsened the situation.

What was supposed to be a historic celebration for RCB and its fans has now been overshadowed by deep sorrow.
