Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has made up his mind to not prolong his Test career any further. He has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his decision. Despite the board’s request to reconsider, Kohli is standing firm. This news has been reported by the Times of India.
On May 7, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket. Shortly after, Kohli hinted at his own departure from the format and communicated his decision to the board.
The BCCI has been somewhat unsettled by the decision of two key players leaving the Test format simultaneously. As a result, they requested Kohli to think again, but according to Indian media, Kohli is not entertaining that appeal.
A BCCI official told the Times of India, “About two weeks ago, Kohli informed chief selector Ajit Agarkar about his intention to retire from Test cricket. The selectors had requested him to continue playing at least until the England series. However, Kohli is firm in his decision. He may announce his final decision before next week’s team selection meeting.”
Sources indicate that during the Australia tour, Kohli had hinted several times to his teammates about retirement. He also conveyed the same message to the board during the IPL. Recently, Kohli’s form in Test cricket hasn’t been impressive. Considering everything, the former Indian captain now sees it best to bid farewell to the red-ball format.
