Liton Das Apologizes to Fans

Bangladesh captain Liton Das has apologized to supporters after the team failed to reach the final of the Asia Cup. Today, he posted an apology on his social media handle on behalf of the team.

A win against Pakistan would have secured a place in the final. The possibility was there. But Bangladesh couldn’t do it. The Tigers turned a dream into a nightmare, their journey ending in the Super Four.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Liton wrote:
“As a team, we tried our best in the Asia Cup 2025. Our ultimate goal was to reach the final and win the title. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. As a team, we sincerely apologize to all the passionate supporters of Bangladesh.”

Liton himself could not play in two Super Four matches due to injury. The same injury has also ruled him out of the upcoming Afghanistan series. He still hasn’t been able to forget the pain of missing those two matches, saying:
“Personally, missing the last two matches because of injury was extremely painful for me. For the same reason, I won’t be able to play in the upcoming Afghanistan series either. Despite giving my best effort, I couldn’t recover in time—and that will haunt me for a long time.”

Although disappointed at not being able to win despite raising hopes, the Bangladesh team received massive support from fans throughout the tournament. Addressing them, Liton wrote:
“Lastly, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your immense support throughout the tournament. As athletes, we are truly fortunate because we have the best fans in the world. Insha’Allah, very soon we will be able to give you the joy you deserve.”

Bangladesh will play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Sharjah starting Thursday. After that, the ODI series will begin in Abu Dhabi. In Liton’s absence, Zakir Ali Anik will captain the team in the T20I series.
