The Bangladesh team is set to tour the United Arab Emirates and later Pakistan this month for T20I series, and Litton Das will lead the team in both series. It has been confirmed that he has been appointed as the T20I captain until the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Najmul Hossain Shanto missed Bangladesh’s last T20I series against the West Indies due to injury, during which Litton Das served as the stand-in captain. Under his leadership, Bangladesh whitewashed the Caribbean side in the three-match series.
There had been ongoing speculation for some time about who would become Bangladesh’s permanent T20I captain. Some even considered Taskin Ahmed a frontrunner, but the fast bowler is currently sidelined due to an ankle injury and is undergoing treatment in England.
Ultimately, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to appoint Litton Das as the full-time T20I captain. Regarding the decision, BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim stated, “We’ve appointed the captain with long-term planning in mind. Looking ahead to the 2026 T20 World Cup scheduled for March, Litton Kumar Das has been given the responsibility to lead our national team in T20s.”
Sheikh Mehedi Hasan will serve as Litton’s deputy for the series against the UAE and Pakistan.
On Sunday (May 4), the BCB announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming series, naming Litton Das as captain. The decision was confirmed by Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim.
