Although Mahmudullah Riyad has retired from international cricket, he hasn’t stopped playing. He is set to take part in the Atlanta Open T20 tournament in the United States. The experienced Bangladeshi all-rounder will play for the US-based franchise Atlanta Fire.
The tournament will be held from October 7 to 12 at the Paramveer Cricket Complex in the city of Rydal, USA.
Mahmudullah has previous experience of playing franchise cricket abroad, including the CPL and PSL. This time, he will also feature on US soil, where he will play alongside another Bangladeshi star, Shakib Al Hasan, for the same team. Shakib is currently busy with the Caribbean Premier League but will soon join Atlanta Fire in the United States.
The organizers have already confirmed the participation of six teams. They introduced Mahmudullah as a “starpower.”
On social media, they announced: “Starpower unlocked! Mahmudullah Riyad will play for Atlanta Fire in the Atlanta Open.”
Earlier this year, after the Champions Trophy, Mahmudullah retired from ODI cricket. Before that, he had bid farewell to Test cricket in 2021 and to T20Is last year. In his international career, he scored 2,444 runs in 141 T20 matches and took 41 wickets with the ball.
