It’s been over one and a half decades since Mohammedan Sporting Club last won the Dhaka Premier League title. During that time, the tournament even gained List-A status. After a long wait, Mohammedan had come very close to clinching the title this season. However, a loss to their arch-rivals Abahani Limited meant the title remained out of reach.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Abahani defeated Mohammedan by six wickets to secure their third consecutive title. The unwanted incident occurred at the end of the match when Mahmudullah lost his temper and charged toward the spectators.
After the match, players from both teams shook hands. As Mahmudullah was heading back to the dressing room, someone from the grandstand above the Mohammedan dressing room reportedly said something to him. Mahmudullah reacted immediately and began moving toward the stands in response. The situation quickly escalated.
Video footage of the incident later showed Mohammedan officials trying to hold Mahmudullah back in the stands to calm the situation. Eventually, they managed to bring him back down.
