Mashrafe Mortaza’s participation in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) depends on his fitness. With just two days remaining before the 11th edition of the tournament begins, uncertainty still looms over the involvement of the former Bangladesh captain. Sylhet Strikers’ coach Mahmud Iman has stated that Mashrafe is not currently fit to play, leaving the situation unclear.
Speaking to the media after a practice session in Mirpur on Saturday (December 28), Sylhet’s coach said, “He is still part of our squad because Mashrafe is an integral part of this team. It depends on the situation—how he feels and his fitness status. If he’s fit enough to play or if the circumstances are favorable, then he will definitely play.”
When asked about his discussions with Mashrafe, Mahmud Iman added, “We are in talks, but everything depends on the situation. Discussions about his fitness and preparation are ongoing. Preparation is also crucial.”
In addition to fitness, the coach emphasized the term “situation,” which carries added significance. Since the political upheaval on August 5, Mashrafe has not been seen in public. The former MP from the now-ousted Awami League government is reportedly facing multiple legal cases. He has also not joined Sylhet’s training sessions.
