Miraz Receives Good News from ICC Following Record-Breaking Bowling

Despite Bangladesh’s loss in the Sylhet Test against Zimbabwe, Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivered an outstanding performance with the ball.

On Wednesday (April 30), the International Cricket Council (ICC) released its weekly update of the men’s player rankings. Miraz climbed four spots in the Test bowling rankings after taking 15 wickets across the two-match series, rising to 26th position.

Though Bangladesh lost the first Test, Miraz became the first Bangladeshi to take at least 10 wickets in a match for the third time in Test history. In the Chattogram Test, the 27-year-old spin all-rounder also scored a century and took five wickets, earning him the Player of the Series award.

In the Sylhet Test, young pacer Nahid Rana claimed three wickets and moved up three places to jointly hold the 68th position with Zimbabwe’s Wellington Masakadza. Khaled Ahmed, who took one wicket, rose two spots to rank 85th. India’s Jasprit Bumrah remains the top-ranked Test bowler.

On the batting side, Mominul Haque improved five places to reach 48th from 53rd. Zakir Hasan made a significant leap, moving up 10 places to become the 50th-ranked batter. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto rose four spots and now shares the 52nd position with Ireland’s Lorcan Tucker. Mahmudul Hasan Joy, with scores of 14 and 33, moved up five positions to 95th.

However, some Bangladeshi players saw a drop in rankings. Litton Das fell one place and Mushfiqur Rahim dropped eight spots, both having missed the series against Zimbabwe.

The two-match Test series ended in a 1–1 draw. Despite losing the Sylhet Test, Bangladesh won the second Test in Chattogram by an innings. Miraz’s consistent and impressive bowling throughout the series earned him recognition from the ICC, bringing good news for him and Bangladesh cricket.
