Mohsin Naqvi agrees to return the Asia Cup trophy to India! But sets a ‘special’ condition

The Asia Cup may be over, but the controversies are not stopping. Mohsin Naqvi has been accused of “stealing” the trophy. That is, India won the Asia Cup, but Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi withheld the trophy. What happened after Pakistan’s defeat in the final is no longer news. But will Naqvi eventually return the trophy? Reports suggest he has agreed—though with a condition.

Naqvi made it clear: as PCB chairman, only he will hand over the trophy; otherwise, it won’t be given. In the end, the Indian cricketers celebrated without the trophy.

The BCCI alleged that Naqvi took the Asia Cup trophy and the players’ medals back to the hotel. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia demanded that the trophy and medals be returned as soon as possible.

How India will officially get the trophy is still uncertain. However, cricket website Cricbuzz reported that Naqvi has placed a condition for returning them: a ceremony must be arranged where he, as a guest, will personally hand over the trophy and medals to the Indian players. Only if this condition is met will Suryakumar Yadav’s team receive the trophy and medals. But given BCCI’s current stance, the chances of such an event being organized are almost nil.
