Mustafizur Finds an IPL Team Midway Through the Tournament

Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman went unsold in the mega auction ahead of this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL). None of the franchises showed interest in him at the time. However, he has now been picked up midway through the tournament. Delhi Capitals have signed Mustafiz for INR 6 crore. The deal has been made as a temporary replacement.

According to IPL regulations, Delhi will not be able to retain Mustafiz for the next season. This means he will only be eligible to play the remaining matches of the current edition. Mustafiz has been brought in as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk, the Australian opener, who has declined to play the remainder of the IPL due to security concerns and will not return to India.

Mustafizur is no stranger to the IPL, having played for multiple teams over seven seasons. In the most recent edition, he played for Chennai Super Kings, where he took 14 wickets in 9 matches. He made a notable impact during his debut season in 2016, helping Sunrisers Hyderabad win the title. That season, he took 17 wickets at an economy rate of just 6.90 and was named the Emerging Player of the Tournament — the only foreign cricketer to ever win that award in IPL history.

The remaining portion of the IPL, which had been suspended due to military conflict between India and Pakistan, is set to resume on May 17. The tournament was halted last Thursday citing security concerns but is now returning to action after a suspension of over a week.
