In the Galle Test, Bangladesh were bowled out for 495 runs in their first innings. In reply, Sri Lanka gave a solid response, led by opener Pathum Nissanka’s century. Nissanka narrowly missed out on a double century, falling short by just 13 runs. The hosts ended the third day at 368 for 4, putting Bangladesh in a slightly uncomfortable position.
In response to Bangladesh’s 495, Sri Lankan openers Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Udara got off to a steady start, adding 47 runs for the first wicket. The breakthrough came from Bangladeshi spinner Taijul Islam, who dismissed Udara for 29 off 34 balls.
After Udara’s departure, Dinesh Chandimal joined Nissanka at the crease, and together they built a 157-run partnership. Nissanka reached his century with superb batting, while Chandimal scored 54 before being dismissed by Naeem Islam, giving Bangladesh a much-needed breakthrough.
Veteran Angelo Mathews, playing his farewell Test, then partnered Nissanka to add another 89 runs. Mathews was eventually out for 39. Meanwhile, Nissanka was on track for a double century but was bowled by Hasan Mahmud for 187 off 256 balls, with the team score at 331.
Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis then played out the rest of the day’s play. Sri Lanka are still trailing by 127 runs with 4 wickets in hand. Mendis is unbeaten on 37, while Dhananjaya remains not out on 17.
