“Not Election—If the Government Wants, I Will Continue Long-Term” – Bulbul

Former national team captain Aminul Islam Bulbul, now serving as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has said that while his tenure is nearing its end, he is open to continuing for the long term if given the opportunity. However, he made it clear that he will not contest any election.

Right after taking charge, Bulbul had announced that he would serve until October this year. But with the BCB election approaching, speculation around his future has grown. Speaking to the media about the upcoming election, Bulbul said:
“I have said it before, I will never contest an election. How will I contest? I don’t have the resources needed for an election. I came here freely through the National Sports Council. If they want me to continue, I will, and I will try my best.”

He added, “There is a lot of confusion. T20 cricket has 120 balls—you can’t finish it in just two overs. Everything depends on the situation. Right now, I am trying to play a long innings.”

With a month left before the election, rumors are circulating that the polls might not be held on schedule. On this, Bulbul—the country’s first Test centurion—remarked:
“The priority of the cricket board is to run cricket. Elections take place every four years, and since the time has come, it will happen on time. Internationally, there is no news when full-member boards hold elections. We, however, take it very seriously. You will soon know about the election commission and related processes.”

Bulbul shared an example of his commitment since taking charge as BCB president:
“On the 30th, when I was made president, it was around 7 in the evening. By the time I got home, it was midnight. I sat down at 6 in the morning and prepared a chart after working all night. When I presented it, the whole board agreed and gave approval. We have been working on it since, and by the grace of Allah, it is progressing very well. Today, we can see its reflection—even an 8-year-old child was present there.”

Speaking about his vision as president, Bulbul emphasized:
“My main responsibility is to ensure that a boy who dreams of cricket gets the opportunity to play, and that we make the path as smooth as possible for him. That is the core objective. If the Bangladesh Cricket Board feels I should stay a bit longer—through whatever process—then I am willing. I left everything behind to serve the country through this role. So, if everything remains stable, I want to continue.”
