The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is midway through its season, and Rajshahi has made a change in leadership. The franchise has replaced Anamul Haque Vijay with Taskin Ahmed as the new captain. The decision was confirmed by Rajshahi in a statement on Monday, January 20.
The main reason for this change is to allow Vijay to focus more on his batting. In the statement, Rajshahi explained: “To allow Anamul Haque Vijay to focus more on his batting, we have decided to relieve him of the captaincy. We have appointed Taskin Ahmed as the new captain for the remaining part of this year’s BPL.”
Despite the leadership change, Vijay has been one of Rajshahi’s top performers so far. The franchise praised him for his exceptional form, noting that he has scored 324 runs in 8 matches, making him the highest run-scorer in the tournament. His recent century against Khulna Tigers—100 runs off 57 balls—was a standout performance, although it couldn’t help his team win.
The statement also mentioned that after the match, Vijay was seen visibly emotional during the award ceremony, feeling the weight of not being able to guide his team to victory in such a close match. Rajshahi management decided that relieving him of the captaincy would allow him to concentrate fully on his batting, which they believe will help him stay mentally sharp and contribute to the team’s efforts to reach the playoffs.
