Regarding the BCB election, “Tamim has an image, and it will remain,” said Asif Akbar.

Tamim Iqbal, who had submitted his nomination for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election, had long been a subject of discussion. However, the former Bangladesh captain withdrew from the race at the last moment, bringing several serious allegations before doing so.

On the very same day Tamim withdrew, Asif Akbar received good news. Mir Helal Uddin withdrew his candidacy from the Chattogram District Sports Association. As a result, two valid candidates remained from the Chattogram division — Asif Akbar, councilor of the Cumilla District Sports Association, and Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury from the Chattogram Divisional Sports Association. Since there were no excess candidates for the two director positions in this division, both were elected unopposed.

A total of four nominations were submitted from the Chattogram division. After scrutiny, the nomination of Shaukat from Chandpur was canceled. When three nominations remained valid and one candidate later withdrew, there was no need for a vote in this division — confirming Asif’s position as a BCB director.

Recently, Asif Akbar spoke about the BCB election, where Tamim Iqbal’s name also came up. He said,

“Tamim Iqbal is our country’s best opener. He isn’t contesting this election. It’s just an election — nothing more. Since they withdrew early and didn’t take part, it became a one-sided affair. Had they participated and then found irregularities, we would have considered that. But now there’s no discussion left. I don’t see any influence here — it’s just a matter of misunderstanding and miscommunication.”

Regarding Tamim’s possible future involvement in cricket administration, Asif expressed optimism:

“Tamim is not that old yet. I believe he will play a major role in Bangladesh cricket in the future. Instead of dwelling on mudslinging or controversy, Tamim has an image — and that image will remain.”

Through this development, it became clear that the election results were determined transparently, and Asif Akbar’s position as a BCB director from the Chattogram division has been officially confirmed.
