Rishabh Pant has made his return to India’s Test squad after four months. The BCCI has announced a 15-member team for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. However, Mohammed Shami has once again been left out.
India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had been sidelined since injuring his foot during the Manchester Test on England’s tour. Recently, he regained his rhythm with a brilliant 90-run innings for India A against South Africa A. Now, he has earned a spot back in the national team for the Test series against the Proteas. Not only that—he has also been named the team’s vice-captain.
The two-match Test series between India and South Africa begins on November 14, with the first Test scheduled to be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The biggest surprise in the squad is the absence of star pacer Mohammed Shami. Despite concerns about his fitness, Shami performed superbly in the Ranji Trophy, taking 15 wickets in the first two matches. It was expected that he would be included in the Test squad for the South Africa series, but the selectors have decided otherwise.
