Rumana Ahmed, who made her international debut in 2011, last played for Bangladesh in the Women’s Asia Cup in July last year. The 33-year-old all-rounder has scored 963 runs and taken 50 wickets in 50 ODIs for Bangladesh. She has also played 87 T20Is, scoring 866 runs and claiming 75 wickets. Nearly two years ago, Rumana sparked discussions with a social media post saying “No more cricket.” At the time, she was not part of any national team series. Although she briefly returned, the former captain has been out of the team for an extended period. Now, she has demanded answers from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for what she calls the ‘destruction of her career.’
In 2023, Rumana was dropped from the squad for the Sri Lanka tour, reportedly due to fitness issues. While BCB stated that she was being rested, Rumana refused to accept that explanation. The board even summoned her to explain the situation. At the time, she told journalists, “You will know everything soon. I will reveal it all officially.”
On Tuesday (May 20), Rumana made a post on her verified Facebook page, writing:
“To the respected guardians of the BCB—I may or may not play, but such immorality and disorder cannot continue. Please give me a final resolution. Being sidelined for three years without any reason is no laughing matter.”
She further wrote,
“My records prove that I have never played carelessly or indulged in dirty cricket, nor have I ever been involved in any unethical conduct. Seniority should never be treated as a curse. I want clear and fair justice against those who have destroyed my bright cricketing career.”
