At one time, Sabbir Rahman was a regular face in the Bangladesh national team. However, he has been out of the squad for a long time. He even went unsold in the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season. This year, however, the hard-hitting batter was picked by Dhaka Capitals from the draft. Given a chance in the playing XI, Sabbir has started to prove himself again.
On Thursday (January 9), Sabbir played a blistering knock of 82 runs off just 33 balls against Chattogram Kings. Although his team couldn’t secure a win, this innings helped Sabbir regain his lost confidence, and he continues to dream of returning to the national team.
In the post-match press conference, when asked about the possibility of making a national team comeback, Sabbir said, “I’m still playing; everyone has dreams. I’m not exactly young or a senior player—you could say I’m in the middle. My fitness hasn’t declined. If I can play 1-2 good innings and the selectors give me a chance, I might make a comeback.”
He further added, “I practice in my way. Maybe I don’t practice in Mirpur, so you don’t see it. I practice in Rajshahi at my own expense. I need to stick to my process. I practice regularly and am trying to make a comeback. I’ve got this opportunity in the BPL, Alhamdulillah. I’ll try to make the most of it.”
Reflecting on his innings, Sabbir mentioned that it would boost his confidence for upcoming matches. “This type of innings gives me confidence for the next matches. Although the team didn’t win, so this innings didn’t benefit much. If I had scored 20 runs and the team won, that would have been better. Personally, though, I feel very good, and I’m feeling confident now,” he concluded.
