The Bangladesh women’s football team, led by Sabina Khatun, received the country’s second-highest civilian award, the Ekushey Padak, today. However, shortly afterward, bad news arrived. Sabina Khatun, Krishna Rani Sarkar, and Sanjida Khatun were left out of the squad for Bangladesh’s tour of the United Arab Emirates, as announced by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
In the absence of experienced players, several new faces have been included in the squad. Some players who previously played for the national team have also made it back into the squad.
Indicating that the decision was made with the future in mind, Bangladesh head coach Peter Butler said,
“These players are the future of Bangladesh football. There are many young players who need time and will learn from their mistakes. From my perspective, the most important thing is that those who are in this squad have good behavior, follow instructions, and deliver acceptable performances.”
Bangladesh will play two matches in the UAE. The first match is scheduled for February 26, followed by the second match on March 2. The first match will be a FIFA friendly match, as it falls within the official international window.
