Shakib’s Hat-Trick of Ducks — A Record He Didn’t Want to Set

Shakib Al Hasan’s time with the bat is going through a rough patch. After returning to the field following a six-month break, he’s still yet to score a run. He has now been dismissed for zero in three consecutive innings. With that, he set an embarrassing new record yesterday. Shakib now holds the record for the most ducks by a Bangladeshi player in T20 cricket.

Playing for Lahore yesterday, Shakib came in to bat at number eight. He faced two balls and was dismissed without scoring. But the last two ducks brought him an unwanted milestone. Among Bangladeshi batters, no one has more ducks in T20 cricket than Shakib now.

Previously, this record belonged to Soumya Sarkar, who was dismissed for zero 31 times in 232 innings. Shakib, with his duck yesterday, reached his 32nd career zero — surpassing Soumya.

However, Shakib needed significantly more innings to claim this record. While Soumya was dismissed for zero 31 times in 232 innings, Shakib reached 32 ducks in 410 innings.

To claim the world record for most ducks in T20 cricket, though, Shakib would have to suffer an extraordinarily bad run of form.
