Following the gunmen attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has called for severing all ties with Pakistan. He even supported the idea of India refusing to play against Pakistan in ICC tournaments.
Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricketer, took an even stronger stance, suggesting that India should completely cut off all forms of relations with Pakistan. In an interview with ANI, Ganguly said, “The incident in Pahalgam is no joke. 100 percent, cutting ties (with Pakistan) should happen. Strict measures are necessary. Incidents like this happening every year are no laughing matter. Terrorism cannot be tolerated.”
On April 22, terrorists attacked a bus carrying tourists in Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of 26 people. Indian authorities have blamed Pakistan for the attack, leading to heightened diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
There has been no bilateral cricketing relationship between India and Pakistan for over a decade. Since 2013, the two teams have only faced each other in ICC and ACC tournaments. However, in light of the recent attack, reports have emerged suggesting that the BCCI might write to the ICC and ACC to express objections to being grouped with Pakistan in tournaments.
