Srilanka, led by Dhananjaya de Silva, dominated the first Test match against South Africa in Durban. Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Sri Lankan bowlers, particularly Lahiru Kumara, wreaked havoc on the South African batting lineup.
Kumara’s exceptional bowling performance was the highlight of the match. He dismantled the South African top order, starting with the dismissal of Tristan Stubbs. A length delivery outside off-stump lured Stubbs into a poke, resulting in a brilliant catch by Karunaratne.
Kumara continued his destructive spell, bowled David Bedingham with a yorker-length delivery. He then trapped Kyle Verreynne leg-before-wicket with a well-directed inswinging delivery.
Despite a valiant effort from captain Temba Bavuma, who top-scored with 70 runs, South Africa was eventually bowled out for a meager 191 runs. Srilanka’s bowlers, led by Kumara’s fiery spell, had completely outclassed the hosts.
