Former national cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election. After pulling out his candidacy, he told the media, “Stop the fixing in BCB elections before you talk about stopping fixing in on-field cricket.”
Their allegation is that the government is interfering in the election. However, Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan dismissed these accusations as baseless and false.
Responding to such claims, Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said, “It was Tamim bhai and his group who tried to do the fixing. But they failed in that attempt.”
He made the remarks in an interview with private television channel Jamuna TV. Asif Mahmud added, “We also have some call records and documents. They indicate that if someone participates in the election, they will have to face consequences after six months. The hint sounded like a threat to someone after the national election.”
It should be noted that the BCB election is scheduled for October 6. Two directors under the NSC quota are yet to be finalized. The Sports Adviser fears that one group may still try to disrupt the election in the end. However, he also said he is ready to sit with any party for the sake of the election.
