Tamim Iqbal has retired from international cricket. Although he will continue playing in domestic and various franchise-based tournaments, he now aims to expand his role beyond being just a player by stepping into sports management.
It has been revealed that Bangladesh’s top opener, Tamim Iqbal, has purchased Gulshan Cricket Club from the Dhaka League. He acquired the club jointly with Mizanur Rahman, the owner of Fortune Barishal, Tamim’s BPL team.
Previously owned by BEXIMCO Group, Gulshan Cricket Club was put up for sale due to political changes that made it difficult for BEXIMCO to manage the sports club. As a result, they decided to sell it. Mizanur Rahman has been appointed as the club’s president, while Tamim will serve as the vice-president. The full committee will be announced after it is officially formed. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the club purchase.
With the BCB elections approaching, many cricket organizers are trying to acquire clubs, and players are not far behind. Like Tamim’s investment in Gulshan Club, several other cricketers are expected to invest in clubs to establish themselves as sports organizers.
Tamim is not the first player to become a club organizer; Shakib Al Hasan has long been involved with Mohammedan Sporting Club as a member.
Meanwhile, former BCB director Khaled Mahmud Sujon has left Abahani after more than a decade and joined Tamim’s Gulshan Cricket Club.
