Tamim to Quit All Forms of Cricket if He Wins BCB Election

The elections for the Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be held in the first week of October. Former national ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has announced that he will contest in the elections. Current BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul has also confirmed his candidacy.

Since suffering a heart attack last March, Tamim has repeatedly faced one question: “When will you return to cricket?” Almost every time, he answered, “Very soon.” But now, he has declared that the end of his playing journey is near. In a recent interview with a local media outlet, Tamim revealed that if elected to the BCB, he will retire from all forms of cricket.

Speaking about his possible retirement, Tamim said, “If I become a board director, I won’t play anymore. I don’t think it would look good. If I am elected, I’ll end my cricketing career. But if I’m not elected, I will continue playing, including in the BPL.”

Tamim further added, “My thoughts on improving Bangladesh cricket or what I want to contribute to Bangladesh cricket didn’t just come after I decided to quit playing. This has always been on my mind.”

The BCB elections will be held on October 4, where current President Aminul Islam Bulbul will also be a candidate. The BCB has already formed a three-member election commission. Senior Supreme Court advocate Mohammad Hossain will serve as the Chief Election Commissioner, alongside Additional IGP of CID Sibgat Ullah and the Executive Director of the National Sports Council.
