Taskin Ahmed has achieved an elusive milestone in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). From the very beginning of this season, the battle between bat and ball has been intense, with batters piling up runs and hitting sixes and fours in abundance. On the other hand, bowlers have consistently made their mark, delivering stellar performances. Among them, Taskin Ahmed leads the wicket-taking charts.
Despite his team Rajshahi’s struggles, Taskin has been a force to reckon with. The right-arm pacer created history against Dhaka Capitals by recording the best-ever bowling figures in BPL history. While the previous record was six wickets in an innings, Taskin became the first bowler to claim seven wickets, dismantling Dhaka with figures of 7/19. Currently in red-hot form, Taskin has scalped 12 wickets in just three matches.
Following him in the wicket tally is foreign player Khushdil Shah, primarily known as a batter but earning respect this season for his disciplined bowling. Representing table-toppers Rangpur Riders, the spinner has taken seven wickets.
The next three spots in the top five wicket-takers are all occupied by Bangladeshi bowlers. Rangpur’s pacer Nahid Rana and Khulna Tigers’ medium-pacer Abu Hider Rony have each taken six wickets. Nahid’s best spell so far is 4/27, while Rony’s best is 4/44. Chattogram Kings’ Aliss Al Islam, with five wickets, holds the fifth spot alongside Sheikh Mehedi, who claimed 4/27 against Fortune Barishal, securing an important win for Rangpur.
Other notable performances include Alauddin Babu (Dhaka Capitals), who has five wickets and was the leading wicket-taker in the NCL T20. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Khulna Tigers) follows closely with four wickets.
Additionally, bowlers with three wickets include Arafat Sunny (Chattogram Kings), Saifuddin (Rangpur Riders), Mustafizur Rahman and Mukidul Islam Mugdho (Dhaka Capitals), and Hasan Murad (Rajshahi).
Taskin’s historic achievement has added a new dimension to this year’s BPL, showcasing the growing competition and the rise of impactful performances from local talents.
