National cricket team pacer Taskin Ahmed has been accused of assaulting and threatening a man after summoning him over the phone. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday (July 27) in Mirpur-1, after which the complainant, Sifatur Rahman Sourav, filed a general diary (GD) at the Mirpur Model Police Station that very night.
According to police sources, Taskin and the complainant were previously friends. However, Taskin has denied the assault allegations. Speaking to a local media outlet, Taskin said, “The accusations made against me are completely false. I’m currently busy with relocating my residence. I did not assault anyone. They are trying to embarrass me by filing a false GD in my name.”
Countering the allegations, the pacer claimed, “I have a friend named Rasi, and they assaulted him. That’s why I called the Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station. The police then went to Mohammadpur to look for them. In retaliation, they filed a GD against me.”
Regarding the complaint against Taskin, Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sajjad Hossain said, “We have received a complaint that an assault took place in front of Sony Cinema Hall on Sunday night. We are currently investigating the validity of the allegation.”
BCB director and chairman of the media committee, Fateh Rahman Mithu, also commented on the issue. He said, “I saw the news in the media this morning. Our Aminul Islam Bulbul and Fahim Bhai have also seen it. An investigation has already been initiated. If this incident did occur, it’s very unfortunate. An iconic player shouldn’t be involved in such matters. I don’t want to comment further until the facts are clear.”
