Shakib had been abroad since before July of last year. After the change in government, he never returned to the country. Although he was scheduled to play in the South Africa series last October, he didn’t come back due to fear of public outrage. He is already facing multiple lawsuits, including a sentence for contempt of court.
He was supposed to represent Bangladesh’s Rangpur Riders, but for various reasons, that couldn’t happen. However, the star all-rounder will play in the Global Super League, having been picked by Dubai Capitals. The champion team of the International League T20 (ILT20) confirmed the news in a Facebook post. The franchise recruited Shakib as a replacement for South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj.
This year’s Global Super League will feature five teams, including Bangladesh’s Rangpur. Other participating teams include Central Stags, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Hobart Hurricanes, and Dubai Capitals.
The tournament is set to begin in the second week of July. Each team will play four matches in the league stage. The top two teams will face off in the final on July 18.
According to the schedule, Dubai Capitals will play their first match on July 10 against Central Stags. Their second match will be on July 11 against Hobart Hurricanes. On July 13, they’ll face Guyana Amazon Warriors. In their final group-stage match on July 16, Shakib’s team will play against Rangpur.
