Tigers Make History with First T20I Series Win Over Pakistan

Within just 13 days, Bangladesh has defeated two of Asia’s former World Cup-winning sides in consecutive T20I series. The Tigers’ impressive performance has left Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selector Abdur Razzak thrilled. He believes that if the team can maintain this consistency, they can perform well in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

On July 10, 13, and 16, Bangladesh faced Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series at Pallekele, Dambulla, and Colombo. After losing the first match in Pallekele, Bangladesh bounced back with back-to-back wins in Dambulla and Colombo to clinch the series 2-1 — their first-ever T20I series win in Sri Lanka.

Returning home with that historic victory, Bangladesh immediately took on Pakistan. On July 20 and 22 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, the Tigers bowled Pakistan out for just 110 and 125 runs, winning the two matches convincingly by 7 wickets and 8 runs, respectively. With these victories, Bangladesh secured their first-ever T20I series win against Pakistan.

Evaluating the overall performance of the team, Abdur Razzak said, “We won because everyone played well. There’s no need to single out anyone; it was a collective effort. The World Cup is still a long way off. For now, our focus is on preparing the team properly.”

The former national star added, “Rather than thinking about the World Cup now, we should go step-by-step and focus on the matches ahead. If we keep improving gradually, the results in the World Cup will come naturally. It’s better not to worry about it too early.”

Bangladesh and Pakistan will face off tomorrow in the third and final T20I. The Tigers are eyeing a whitewash on home soil and hope to continue this momentum going into the future. According to Abdur Razzak, if this form continues, a strong performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup is well within reach.
