“Timed Out Drama in BPL: What Captain Miraz Did”

In the ongoing BPL, a “Timed Out” controversy similar to the one seen in the 2023 ODI World Cup emerged. In the World Cup, Shakib Al Hasan had sparked a debate by calling out Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews for being “Timed Out.” However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the captain of Khulna Tigers, handled a similar situation differently in the BPL.

On Tuesday (December 31), Chattogram Kings were chasing a target of 204 runs set by Khulna Tigers. During the seventh over, bowled by Mohammad Nawaz, he dismissed Haider Ali on the very first ball. Subsequently, overseas player Tom Curran came to bat but failed to enter the field within the stipulated time.

Khulna captain Miraz appealed to on-field umpire Tanvir Ahmed for “Timed Out,” which the umpire acknowledged. As Curran began to leave the field, Miraz called him back, exemplifying the Spirit of Cricket. Curran responded with a thumbs-up gesture, and even Chattogram Kings’ team owner, Samir Quader Chowdhury, appeared relieved by the sportsmanship displayed.

This act of fairness and sportsmanship left a positive mark on the game, reinforcing the true spirit of cricket.
