Trump became somewhat of a “kebab mein haddi” — an unwanted presence during a moment meant solely for the players.

When former US President Donald Trump is around, something unusual is bound to happen — and that’s exactly what occurred at the Club World Cup final. So much so, that he even had to face boos from the crowd.

On Sunday (July 13), the final of the Club World Cup was held at MetLife Stadium in New York, where French giants PSG faced off against English club Chelsea. Chelsea clinched the title with a dominant 3-0 victory.

However, during Chelsea’s post-match celebration, Trump became somewhat of a “kebab mein haddi” — an unwanted presence during a moment meant solely for the players. Normally, after presenting the trophy, dignitaries or sponsors step away to allow players to celebrate freely, without interruption.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino followed this norm — he handed the trophy to Chelsea’s players and stepped aside. But Trump, ever insistent, remained right in the middle of the Chelsea squad as they celebrated.

This awkward moment quickly went viral on social media. Despite Infantino repeatedly gesturing for Trump to step off the stage, he stood his ground in the midst of Chelsea’s jubilant players.

The incident reminded many of the 2006 Champions Trophy final when then BCCI president Sharad Pawar handed the trophy to Australia’s captain Ricky Ponting but lingered on stage. Ponting eventually had to nudge Pawar off the stage to allow his team to celebrate — a scene that could easily have been repeated with Trump.

Thankfully, Chelsea’s players refrained from any physical response, but Trump’s presence clearly stole some attention from the team’s moment of glory.
